Your PER is based on the time you’re gaining relevant work experience, so if you're taking an extended break from work, this time would not count towards your 36 months' experience.

Recording a career break

When you leave for an extended period, such as maternity or parental leave, or if you are taking a career break, you should end date your role. When you return to your position, you should add a new role within the same employer with your return to work date as your 'start date' this way, your experience will be accurately recorded.

Note extended leave is a period of 4 or more weeks.

Changing role or employer

If you return to a different role within the same employer, a new job title can be added with your new start date.

If you return to a different employer, you must record details of the new employer and then your new job role.

Remember to add your practical experience supervisor to your newly added role.
